Why it matters

Hearing fades so slowly that most people don't notice, until conversations start to slip.

Common after 65

About 1 in 3 adults aged 65 to 74 has hearing loss, and nearly half of those over 75.

National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders

Linked to dementia

Hearing loss is one of the largest modifiable risk factors for dementia.

Livingston et al. (2024), The Lancet

Rarely treated

Among adults 70 and older who could benefit from hearing aids, fewer than 1 in 3 has ever used them.

High notes go first

Age-related hearing loss usually starts at the highest frequencies.

Questions

How accurate is this?

It's a rough screening, not a medical hearing test. Results depend on your device, headphones and volume.

Why do high tones matter?

We lose the highest frequencies first as we age. It's often the earliest sign of hearing loss.

What if my ears sound older than me?

Mild to moderate loss is common and treatable with over-the-counter hearing aids. If you have sudden loss, pain or ringing, see a doctor.

Do I need to sign up?

No. You can take the test right away and choose whether to save your results.
